Jimmy, the little kangaroo goes on a journey

Hopplahopp tells the story of Jimmy, a nosy little kangaroo. During one of his many explorations in his home country Australia, Jimmy encounters the Opera House in Sydney and gets lost. Tired from hopping around, Jimmy falls asleep in the case of a double bass. Next thing he knows, Jimmy wakes up on a tour around the world with a traveling orchestra. The little kangaroo Jimmy becomes friend with Rudi, the bass player, and the rest of the band and discovers many new things all around the world: new musical styles, new friends, new tastes, but also the feeling of homesickness…

About the project

I wrote the story for Hopplahopp for a friend, Sascha Rathey, who came up with the idea and concept. She wanted to showcase the skills of AkkordSportSextett, a group of musicians. Rather than record a simple demo, Sascha preferred a radioplay for children, and Jimmy was born.

Different types of music (dance, folk, guitar, jazz, tango, opera, classical etc.) alternate with the story and are woven into the story of Jimmy’s travels around the world.

  • Clemens Nicol – Narrator
  • Tobias Föhrenbach – Jimmy
  • Kolja Buhlmann – Rudi
  • Ricardo Frenzel – Supporting parts
  • AkkordSportSextett and guests
  • Story by Jakob Straub
  • Concept by Sascha Rathey
